8 min read

The U.S. premiere of a documentary about Detroit-born music star Ray Parker Jr., an incisive look at the changing dynamics of Hamtramck and the story of efforts to save Boblo Island’s famed steamships are among the highlights of the just-announced lineup for the 2021 Freep Film Festival.

The documentary-focused festival produced by the Detroit Free Press will feature 35+ screenings (in-person and virtual), filmmaking events and more across five days, Sept. 22-26. The lineup includes 19 feature length films and 19 shorts, most of them making their Michigan premieres.

The full lineup is below, and can be explored in greater depth at freepfilmfestival.com. Tickets and passes are on sale at the same site.

Screenings will be held at a variety of venues throughout metro Detroit, with activities centered in downtown and Midtown. There will be both indoor and outdoor events.
